National Championships 2006

Results and news from the 2006 BKFA National Championships

This years BKFA National Championships were held on Sunday, 22nd October at the Cocks Moors Woods Leisure Centre in Birmingham. The competition this year was interrupted by a spectacular demonstration prepared and performed by a team of Lau Gar practitioners. The audience was treated to a variety of sets including Three Section Staff, Shaolin Steel Whip and Chen style Tai Chi. For a full illustrated description of the demonstration please take a look at the following PDF.

This year’s competition saw a modest number of competitors from the clubs in our area but we still managed a good deal of success. In the sets competition Andy French and Garry Seghers placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Andy performed his Shaolin Double Broad Sword set and Garry his Tai Chi Sword.

In fact, Andy placed joint first with Stewart Agars after the initial judging and the head judge requested that the two compete in a tie breaker by each performing a different set. Unfortunately Andy was forced to decline and Stewart was awarded the first place. “I’ve had a rough month or two what with illness and work getting in the way of my training so I’m not really at my best at the moment. I had only just enough time before the Nationals to get one set ready and I wouldn’t have done myself justice by attempting a second.” said Andy.

Garry complemented his 3rd place in the sets with another 3rd in the Pushing Hands.

Coner McGeary gave us another second place this time in the Junior under 75kg category. Well done Coner.
